Supported Living
The Supported Living Program provides creative, individualized, and customer directed community living services to people with developmental disabilities. The majority of the services provided are Community Supported Living Arrangements and Individual Support Services. A wide variety of people are served, including but not limited to mild intellectual disability, brain injury, co-occurring mental illness and/or addictions.
Supported Living is focused on assisting individuals to determine their own lives and then building supports around those lives, and change as each person’s life evolves. Individuals are encouraged to develop friendships and relationships with others. Many social, leisure, and spiritual options are available for service recipients. We provide services and relational supports to individuals that choose to marry. Supported Living encourages diversity in lifestyle choices and supports individual choices. We support mothers and fathers in understanding parenthood while raising children. Supported Living also works closely with the Community Forensic Aftercare Program and the Maryland Court System in providing supports for individuals that are court involved.
Individuals are supported in their own home or in homes that are obtained with the assistance of Emerge. Supported Living supports approximately 150 individuals in well over 90 different locations. The youngest person receiving supports is 5 and the oldest is 85. Services are delivered in the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas of Maryland. Support ranges from 5 hours per week of drop-in support to assist with budgeting to 24 hour 1-1 support that addresses all areas of a person’s life.
We constantly work to obtain the highest quality staff, and provide intensive training prior to working with individuals and on-going training after employees begin employment.
All services are directed by Individual, as documented in his or her Individual Plan. Customers have the choice of an array of services as they develop their plan. Services include Nursing Case Management, staff support, money, budgeting, and asset management, assistance with home management (cooking, cleaning, etc), transportation assistance and training, therapy, behavioral support plans, social and recreational activities, and ancillary and related activities.
