Greenhouses
The Emerge Greenhouses program is designed to provide vocational training and therapeutic services through horticultural work to adults with developmental disabilities. We provide services to thirty adults with a wide range of multiple and complex mental and physical disabilities. A vast majority of our service recipients also receive residential services from Emerge or another like agency. Those who do not rely on a provider agency live with their families. Some of our customers have made a career here, working 10+ years, while others have just graduated from high school and are exploring career options. Yet even more people move on to community based employment after using the greenhouses as a stepping stone to gain the skills and knowledge required to obtain those jobs.
No matter how long they have been working at Emerge Greenhouses, all of the service recipients take great pride in their work. Many say that going to the Bel Air and White Marsh farmers markets are the best part of their job because they are able to see the reaction people have to the quality of their work. We aim to integrate our program with community members and businesses as much as possible.
Utilizing over 15,000 sq. ft of greenhouse space, we grow and sell our own Easter, spring, fall and Christmas plants to churches, schools, landscapers, nurseries, community businesses and other supporters of our program. Open year round, the greenhouses have built a business and reputation on growing and selling some of the most beautiful flowers while providing some of the best therapeutic and vocational services.
Emerge Greenhouses is a truly unique and wonderful program.
