Job Description
Emerge, Inc. is seeking professional minded staff to work as direct support counselors with individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area. Emerge provides on-going services to over 400 individuals with disabilities in an array of residential, supported living, and supported employment settings. These are positions working directly with individuals in the provision of personal assistance, activities of daily living, health care, leisure, and spiritual services based on each individual's need. The positions require flexible schedules, and most positions require some evening or weekend work. These positions involve long term commitment to individuals with disabilities, and can be incredibly rewarding if you are a people focused person. Emerge provides employee benefits.
Job Requirements
Direct Support Counselors provide individualized services for each person with a disability who is served. Emerge provides a paid comprehensive new employee training program lasting several weeks, which new employees must complete prior to beginning work with individuals with disabilities. Afternoon, evening, overnight, and weekend positions are available. Emerge makes every effort to match staff with the right individual. Staff provide guidance or direct service provision in the areas of (i) self care, (ii) receptive and expressive language, (iii) learning, (iv) mobility, (v) self-direction, (vi) capacity for independent living, and (vii) economic self-sufficiency based on each person's Individual Plan. Emerge is a drug-free workplace, and performs background checks and drug testing.
